Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has barred 11 Presidential aspirants after they failed to submit their running mates’ names by May 16th.
Initially, the commission had confirmed 55 Presidential candidates which have now gone down to 44 ahead of the August elections.
Speaking from Bomas of Kenya, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati confirmed that only one Presidential candidate was from a coalition, 14 from various political parties and 40 of them are independent candidates.

Aspirants have also been told to submit 2,000 signatures from at least 24 counties in the country as a requirement that needs to be completed by Monday.
IEBC will then undertake a verification process to access whether the signatures issued are valid, an issue that was raised by candidates who termed the process as giving some an unfair advantage over others.
President during the Monday meeting were representatives from Azimio la Umoja camp, Kenya Kwanza Alliance, and Wiper representative led by Kalonzo Musyoka’s running mate Andrew Sankula and party’s Secretary-general Shakila Abdalla.
