The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Tribunal has upheld a decision by a Mombasa returning officer barring Mike Sonko from the governor’s race.
According to the tribunal, the former Nairobi Governor had failed to submit his original degree certificate as well as there copies which was in total violation of article 75 of the constitution.
In 2017, the former Governor had submitted copies of his degree certificate which were certified by his advocate but could not be used in getting clearance in this coming elections.

Sonko did not receive the verdict well and has promised to take the matter to the High Court in a bid to overturn the Monday ruling.
His party Wiper has been issued a 72 hour ultimatum by IEBC to submit the name of another candidate who will vie for the Mombasa governor’s seat.
