The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC)Â has barred former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko from vying for the Mombasa Governor seat.
This is after the commission noted that the former Nairobi Governor violated Chapter six of the constitution and was impeached from office thus could is not fit to hold any public office.
Also barred by the commission is Kiambu Senatorial aspirant Paul Karungo Wa Thang’wa who was impeached by the Kiambu County Assembly following the impeachment of then Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Confirming the news was IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati who said the same rules apply to every candidate vying for an elective post ahead of the August elections.
Those with pending court cases stand a chance to be in the ballot once their cases are heard before the IEBC set deadline as confirmed by Chebukati on Friday.
Mike Sonko has been vocal on the proceeding terming attempts to block him unlawful claiming to have not received a full hearing on the matter.
