IEBC invites presidential candidates for consultative meeting

The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) has invited all four presidential candidates for a consultative meeting.

The Friday 29th July meeting at the Bomas of Kenya will discuss concerns by the candidates in regard to the printing of results forms 34 A and 34 B respectively.

On Wednesday, the Azimio coalition raised concern over a move by the Commission to print two form 34A’s that were delivered in the country on the same day in the first batch of presidential ballot papers to land at JKIA.

The form which is used to calculate the total votes cast for presidential candidates was printed twice as book 1 of 2 and book 2 of two, a move that was explained by the commission to facilitate the issuance of one copy to observers, the media and other stakeholders.

Azimio coalition was however not convinced by the explanation by IEBC Vice Chair Julianna Cherera raising concerns over one of booklets containing a different security feature from the other one.

Speaking to the media, the commission noted that one booklet is not enough to issue copies of the results to all stakeholders including the media and observers as one booklet only contains six copies.

Chebukati has also been quizzed by Hon. Raila Odinga over the absence of form 34B which is used to calculate presidential results at constitutional level as per the law. According to Raila, concerns over the integrity of the elections remain unresolved.
