Intercontinental hotel plans to end business in Kenya

The iconic Intercontinental hotel is planing to wind up its business in the country and fire all employees.

In a notice seen by Citizen TV, the hotel has cited operation difficulties as the main reason for closure of the chain of hotels.

The notice issued to all employees, it has specified that they will all be rendered redundant in the next 45 days and that the hotel will permanently close its business in the country.

It is not yet clear if the reason behind the closure is due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused losses especially in the hotel industry as a whole.

The news comes after Norfork hotel closed its doors and changed its management citing tough time due to the pandemic.

Situated next to KICC and parliament building, Intercontinental hotel was in 2019 under a huge debt that it was almost put under auction.
