Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’I has appointed Mr. Charles Mwongera as the new chairperson of the Firearms Licensing Board.
Also appointed are David Kahinga, Jackson Kimutai Rotich, Vincent Wahoro, Nancy Kabete, Justin Odhiambo Khaduli and Lazarus Mbondo.
The new appointments come a week after the Interior CS disbanded the existing Firearm Licensing Board.
The Interior CS noted that his department is working quietly to restore the board which had been engulfed by incompetence and corruption.
The newly appointed heads have been confirmed through a gazette notice that they will work for a period of three years.
Dr. Fred Matiang’I also added that his team is working of digitizing the board by introducing new certificates for legit firearm holders.
Firearms holders who will lack the new certificates will be deemed as illegal holders. Prior appointments made by the Interior CS have been revocked through the same gazette notice.
“The prior appointments made vide Gazette Notices Nos. 1619 of 2016, 10383 of 2017, and 3147, 7266 and 8536 of 2018 are revoked,” Dr Matiang’i said in the gazette notice.” Read the gazette notice.
