Interior CS stops issuance of work permit to foreigners

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’I has issued a new directive to stop processing of work permits for foreigners.

Speaking at The Nairobi University, Dr. Fred said that all foreigners will from now on be required to get working permits from their countries.

The move is meant to ensure that the country received foreigners who obey the law. Dr. Fred Matiang’I was speaking during the launch of Kenya Institute of Migration Studies program at the Nairobi University when he said that the new directive has already been implemented.

The new directive follows a government plan of action in relation to immigration where it has been vigilant on foreigners in the country.

In May this year, a country wide crack down was launched where thousands of foreigners were being investigated if they have all necessary documents.

Those caught on the wrong side of the law were imported out of the country. Interior CS Dr. Matiang’I was angered by revelation of many illegal businesses ran by some foreigners in the country.


During his speech, the Interior CS also directed thata mandatory PR traing course should into the new curriculum to all immigration officers.

The interior CS also added that no immigration officer will be able to get any promotion unless they undertake the post graduate Diploma in the migration studies
