Isiolo bandits shoot a female census enumerator

Bandits in Isiolo County are reported to have attacked a female enumerator before killing two men.

The bandits are said to have attacked a village on Tuesday night at before shooting the two men leaving the female enumerator with a gunshot wound.

According to the area Census supervisor, the attackers came with the aim of interfering with the exercise.

Condemning the incident was Isolo North MP Hassan Odha who confirmed the occurrence of such cases during census periods.

He called on the national government to provide more security in the area to enable such incidents do not recur.

Residents of Isiolo were also encouraged to stay put as security issues will be sorted out. In addition to that, they were advised it will see everyone being counted and identified during the exercise.

Officers are also said to have trailed footprints left by the bandits who are said to have disappeared at a nearby village.

People in the area have been called upon to forward the names of the attackers before the police step to flash them out.

The attacks follow that of Tharaka Nithi where seven people were arrested on Wednesday night for refusing to be counted terming the exercise satanic.

The seven from the famous Kabonokia sect are said to have told the enumerators they will be counted in heaven.

Action is set to be taken on the suspects as the government imposed a penalty of Ksh 500,000 to anyone who will refuse to be counted.
