Citizen Tv news anchor Jeff Koinange has found himself in trouble after the interview of COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli.
Media Council of Kenya has written a letter to Royal Media Editorial director Joe Ageyo and to Mr. Jeff koinange threatening to take unspecified actions following Wednesdays’ interview.
Mr. koinange is accused of breaching media rule and privavcy as stated in the letter dated July 16th 2018.
The later was written by MSK CEO David Omwoyo.
Among the complains was the fact that Mr. Koinange asked Mr Atwoli to clear the air about his marriage to KTN’s TV anchor Mary Kilobi.
Even though Mr Atwoli confirmed the question, there was a number of private question directing at him.
Some of the private questions include “lakini kazi bado unafanya?” and “katiba bado unasoma?” which were used frequently during the interview.
MCK accuses Mr. Jeff of breaching clause 10 and 13 of journalism which entail on obscenity and taste reporting and the code of conduct in journalism respectively.
The media council has also accused Mr. Jeff for frequently asking adult questions on live TV outside the watershed hours.
In journalism, it is not acceptable to enquire about an individual private life including his/her home, religion, family, sexuality and individual private affair.
In the meantime Citizen TV has been asked to report back on the steps it has put in place to ensure such things don’t occur in the future.
