JKUAT cafeteria razed down by fire,no injuries reported

Jomo Kenyatta University cafeteria section was on Monday night razed down by a raging fire.

The early morning fire is said to have begun at around 3-4 am is also said to have affected hall six and shops adjacent to the hall before the fire department arrived at 6 am.

Upon arrival, the fire brigade is said to have rushed to the kitchen to contain the fire from spreading any further due to the presence of explosive equipment such as the gas.

The University vice-chancellor Prof. Victoria Ngumi arrived at the institution at around 7:30 am and addressed the students promising to assist the students in the affected hall to get alternative accommodation.

Reports indicate that no one was injured during the fire even though student properties were destroyed in the inferno.

The fire brigade has been blamed for arriving late to contain the fire. They arrived about two hours after the fire broke out.

The matter is currently under investigation as noted at Juja police station even though the cause of the inferno is suspected to be electrical faults.
