Thirteen students from Kakamega Primary School are feared dead as 39 others have sustained serious injures following a stampede on Monday.
Twenty other students are reported to have been discharged after receiving treatment at Kakamega County Hospital.
The Monday incident which has left many in shock is said to have occurred when the students were leaving their classes at 5 pm.

Kakamega Primary School which sits on a three storey building building saw some of the pupils fall the third floor.
The County Governor Wyclife Oparanya and Legislators rushed to the hospital to condole with the parents.
Mourning the loss was ODM leader Raila Odinga who sent his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victims.
He however called for an immediate probe into the cause of the incident.
“My heartfelt condolences to parents that have lost loved ones in the unfortunate and regrettable tragedy at Kakamega Primary School.
I wish a quick recovery to the injured children and pray that God grant strength to the affected families.
There must be an immediate and thorough probe to get to the bottom of this incident.”
Past tragedies involving schools
This is not the first incident to have struck a primary school as in September 2019 seven pupils of Precious Talent school in Nairobi died when the school caved.
Education CS George Magoha closed down the school as he embarked on a countrywide closure other institution lacking proper structures.
