Kenya confirms 16 new COVID-19 deaths, tally now 858

A total of 16 new COVID-19 deaths have been confirmed in Kenya as the cumulative number of fatalities rise to 858.

“16 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 858. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones.” said Ministry of Health.

The Ministry was speaking as they confirmed 497 new cases of the disease obtained from 4,888 samples tested.

It now brings the cumulative number of cases confirmed to 46,144 and samples so far tested to 632,669.

“Today 497 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 4,888 tested in the last 24 hours. This brings to 46,144 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. Our cumulative tests are now 632,669.” Said MOH

471 of the new cases are Kenyans with 17 being foreigners who comprise of 295 males and 202 females. In terms of age distribution, the youngest is 1-year and the oldest 88-years.

“Distribution of cases by Counties;Nairobi 227, Machakos 64, Mombasa 51, Uasin Gishu 37, Laikipia 28, Busia 19, Kajiado 11, Embu 10, Nakuru 9, Wajir 7, Kiambu 6, Kilifi 6, Kisumu 4, Nyeri 4, Makueni 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Meru 2, Kisii 2, Turkana 2, Narok 1, Homabay 1 & Kakamega 1.” Said MOH.

In the same 24 hours, a total of 238 people have recovered from the virus bringing to 32,760 the number of recoveries. Out of the recoveries, 170 of them are from home-based care and the rest from various hospitals.

“238 people have recovered from the disease, 170 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 68 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 32,760.

Currently, there are 27 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 on ventilatory support and 41 on supplementary oxygen. A total of 1,189 are currently admitted in various health facilities and 2,661 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.” Said MOH
