Kenya records 488 new COVID-19 cases from 5,831 samples

The Ministry of Health in Kenya has on Friday confirmed 488 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 5,831 tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases and samples tested represent a positivity rate of 8.4% pushing the cumulative number of cases so far confirmed to 174,773.

“Today 488 people have tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 5,831 tested in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is now 8.4%. Total confirmed positive cases are now 174,773 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,858,443.” Said Ministry of Health.

Distribution of the new cases by county is as below; Nairobi 90, Busia 72, Siaya 71, Kisumu 35, Kericho 33, Uasin Gishu 27, Mombasa 23, Bungoma 21, Nakuru 14, Nandi 13, Homa Bay 11, Bomet 11, Kisii 9 and Kirinyaga 8, Kakamega 7, Vihiga 6, Kiambu 5, Murang’a 4, Kilifi 4,Garissa 3, Kajiado 3, West Pokot 3, Kitui 2, Meru 2, Migori 2, Narok1, Nyamira 1, Samburu 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Embu 1, Kwale 1 and Machakos 1.

Through a statement, the Ministry confirmed 343 recoveries out of whom 274 are from home-based care and 69 from various health facilities across the country. Cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 119,589.

Unfortunately, 16 people are feared dead with all deaths being late reports after audit from various health facilities across the country. Cumulative number of deaths now stand at 3,378.

The ministry further confirmed a total of 4,827 patients who are home-based care and 969 who are in various health facilities in the country.

At the same time, 162 patients are currently admitted in the Intensive Care with 113 of them being on supplementary oxygen and 30 under the ventilator.
