Kenya risks sanctions from FIFA over FKF disbandment

International Football governing body FIFA has confirmed that Kenya may face sanctions following the disbandment of FKF by the government.

Through a statement, FIFA noted that FKF works independently free from undue influence by third parties something that was violated by Sports CS Amina Mohamed on Thursday.

The statement continues by acknowledging the appointment of a caretaker committee which was contrary to its laws and that reverse the orders may cause Kenyan football to suffer.

“In the event the decision to appoint a FKF Caretaker Committee and correlated secretariat was to be upheld, we would have no other choice than to submit the present matter to the Bureau of FIFA Council for consideration and decision.

Therefore, we kindly ask you to inform the Cabinet Secretary that in an event her decision to appoint a FKF Caretaker Committee and corelated secretariat was to be upheld, we would have no choice but to submit the present matter to the Bureau of of FIFA Council for consideration and decision” Read part of the statement.

Following the directive by CS Amina Mohamed, FKF President Nick Mwendwa was immediately locked out of Kandanda House. He however remained adamant that he was still in charge terming the caretaker Committee as illegal.
