“Just back from the US for the pre-shipment inspection of the much awaited CyberKnife – an advanced cancer treatment machine which will be the 2nd in Africa after Egypt. It will be delivered in a few weeks. We thank our President, HE Uhuru Kenyatta for authorising its acquisition.” Said Prof. Olive Mugenda.
The news comes at a time when pressure is mounting on the government to further reduce the cost of treating cancer in the country.
At the same time the government has been urged to procure some of the modern equipment to make it possible for Kenyans to get treatment within the country instead of incurring the cost of travelling to India.
Patients have urged the government to make the treatment available in county levels as it has been costly for them to travel to Nairobi so as to meet the doctors appointments and fight cancer effectively.
