Kenyan author and activist Binyavanga Wainaina has died at the age of 48 after suffering stroke.
In 2016 Wainanina come out to reveal he was HIV positive and was set to wed his Nigerian lover early this year.
The author and activist will be remembered for his courage to open up that he was gay as he fought for gay rights.
He was also the founder of literary magazine Kwani and won the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2002 for his short story Discovering Home.
Fellow activists have mourned the death of Binyavanga Wainaina hoping that his death will create awareness of the gay rights in Kenya.
Before meeting his death Wainainaina is said to have gone underground because of the neglect and abuse he faced from the community in the last few years.

In addition to that, he is said to have removed his Christian name to live like a true African gay man.
