Ann Qabale Duba has championed some of the outdated cultural practices in Marsabit such as Female Genital Mutalition (FGM) something that caught the attention of the world.

In a ceremony presided over by Emirates CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the nurse was awarded Ksh 28.8 million on a day that the world was marking world nursing day.

Speaking at the event, the nurse who is also the only female graduate in her community revealed that she has also built a school in her region to help students access education.

She continued by further revealing she solemnly took the initiative to educate people on the side effects of outdated cultural practices such as FGM.

“”In my wildest dreams I never thought that one day I would be celebrated on a global platform such as this. I come from a place where the illiteracy level is quite high, after having a taste of education I decided to go back and enlighten my people through education. Illiteracy allows harmful cultural practices such as FGM to thrive in Northern Kenya,”┬áSaid Qabale

The award which was first introduced in 2021 attracted 24,000 entries before the final list with nine nurses making it.
