Kenyans warned against illegal oral contraceptive named Sofia

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has warned Kenyans against the consumption of illegal oral contraceptives named Sofia.

The drug which is reported to be circulating in the market has not been authorized for use and distribution by the board thus posing a great risk to the health and safety of the public.

In order to protect the general public, PPB has initiated a rapid response and surveillance team to confirm whether the drug(Sofia) is indeed in the market as well as determine the source and implement legal actions against the suppliers.

“PFB Would like to inform the public that the mdical product is NOT registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and therefore is NOT authorized for use or distribution in Kenya.

The product is substandard and falsified (SF) and poses a great risk to the health and safety of the public.” Said PPB

Members of the public wholesaling, retailing, issuing, and dispensing the product have been warned against illegal activities and that they endanger the safety and health of the public.

PPB further encourages members of the public and healthcare providers to report all subsidized, substandard and falsified products to them.
