Kenyatta University is once again on the spot after its council confirmed Prof. Paul Wainaina’s replacement despite being a court order revoking any appointments.
Led by the university Chairman of Council Chrispus Kiamba, the University council confirmed the appointment of Waceke Wanjohi as the acting Vice Chancellor until when a Wainaina’s permanent replacement is found.
“The attention of the university community is drawn to a decision by the Hon. Justice Gakeri of the Employment and Labour Court in Nairobi on 4th August 2022 where the court dismissed an application by Prof. Paul Wainaina for injunctive orders.

“Arising from the above developments, Council has resolved that Prof. Waceke Wanjohi continues as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University until further notice,” Read the statement.
The announcement comes at a time when the court issued an order barring any appointments until when a case filled by the former VC Paul Wainaina is heard and determined.
“Pending hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, this honourable court is pleased to issue a temporary order suspending the implementation of the decision contained in the letter dated July 12 by Professor Crispus Kiamba suspending, terminating and/or dismissing the petitioner from the Office of the Vice Chancellor, rendering his position vacant and/or revoking his salary,” said the ruling by Justice Jacob Gakeri.
Wainaina found himself in the wrong side of the government after he refused to surrender the title deed of the University to pave way for the development of project by World Health Organization (WHO).
President Uhuru Kenyatta promised to deal with those hindering the development swiftly and effectively.
