Kisumu County wants to be self sufficient in poultry products after rolling out a project that will see production of one million eggs a day and one million broilers a month.
The County Executive Committee member for Business,Energy and Industry Alice Moraa said that an MOU has already been signed with other stakeholders to ensure that adequate training and funding is available.
The county will therefore mobilize 100 poultry farmers every month who are spread among the 36 wards.in one year it will make a total of 1200 farmers who have been trained.
Speaking to Business Daily,Mrs Miriam Okeyo a lead trainer and officer in-charge of liaison of the project said that each farmer will start of with 500 chicks,with 100 farmers it will make 50,000 in the first production of which they will build the production after that.
The current demand for chicken in Kisumu is 25,000 broiler chicken and 75,000 eggs daily.
