Kisumu National Polytechnic students riot over fee increment

Kisumu National Polytechnic has been closed indefinitely following unrest witnessed on Monday at the institution.

Police engaged the angry students in running battles as the school management issued an order for all students to vacate the building.

The students were demonstrating increased school fees payment by Ksh 6,000 which they say was implemented without involving them.

They continued by accusing the management of suspending all mechanical engineering students for apparently no reason.

As at 10 am, the police were forced to lobby teargas in the air so as to disperse the students who caused panic in the city.

Residents of Makasembo, Kaloleni and Polyview were caught in the mix forcing them to scamper for safety.

Three thieves killed in Kisumu

Three thieves were stoned to death when a gang of five struck Makasembo area of Kisumu County on Sunday night.

Two of the thieves were caught immediately after committing the crimes while three of them run as an angry mob pursued them.

One of the thieves was caught at Polyview estate before he was descended by crude weapons before meeting his death.
