Likoni Ferry: Vehicle sinks into the ocean, one body retrieved

The body of a man has been retrieved after a vehicle he was sunk into the Indian Ocean at the Likoni Ferry channel.

“A body of a man has been retrieved from the ill-fated vehicle which is still submerged in water.” Said Kenya Ferry Services

The Saturday morning incident is reported to have happened when the ill-fated vehicle sped off and into the ocean.

It is said that the driver first took a ticket before speeding off into the channel.

Efforts to block the car failed as it sunk into the ocean. It is however not clear how many people were inside the vehicle.

Operations are still ongoing as the Kenya Ferry Services confirm the submerged vehicle is yet to be retrieved.

The incident barely a month after a mother and her daughter lost their lives on the same channel.

Mariam Kighenda at daughter Amanda Mutheu perished after the car they were in plunged into the Ocean.

The government stepped in to help through a joint operation carried out by private divers from the family.
