Last year in June, Lionel Messi shook the football industry after submitting his transfer request away from Barcelona following international disagreement of then President Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Legal challenges saw his request turned down as several of his previous teammates left the club including the likes of Luiz Suarez. Manchester City were poised to be eying his signature.
Josep Maria resigned afterwards following dwindled successes of the club on and off the pitch. He was later arrested by police who were investigating smear campaign allegations targeting former players.
Former President Laporte won the elections and expressed how optimistic Messi will stay at the club and that he will build a strong squad around him.
