Argentina ended their 28-year wait as Lionel Messi won his first major International trophy thanks to a 1-0 win against Brazil on Saturday.
The win also brought to an end the unbeaten record of Brazil who were favourites to clinch the trophy at Maracana stadium in the city of Rio de Janeiro. it was the first time in six years that Brazil has failed to win in the tournament’s final.
The last time Argentina lifted the trophy was in 1993 when legend Gabriel Batistuta netted twice to win 2-1 against Mexico in Ecuador.

PSG winger Angel Di Maria netted the only goal of the match in the 22nd minute when he won a through ball from Rodrigo De Paul to beat Ederson. It was his finish of the clash.
Speaking after the match, the 33-year-old winger noted how they had dreamt of lifting the trophy and how they worked hard to push for a goal until it came through. He also noted how many people criticized them saying they will not beat opponents Brazil.
Lionel Messi was close to double the lead two minutes from time when he had a clear chance and one-on-one face off with goalkeeper Ederson but slipped and failed to convert.
At the end, all players gathered around the 34-year-old Barcelona forward to show how important the win was for him but to also the entire country on the night.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni noted how the win was important for the citizens and those who associate themselves with them to remember them as a team that never gives in.
Brazil coach Tite noted that they have to be big enough to except the result no matter how hard and difficult it can be.
