New summer signing Darwin Nunez sealed the evening win for Liverpool as they tore apart rivals Manchester City to lift the Community Shield.
The much awaited season opener was played at King Power Stadium instead of the famous Wembley which will host the women’s Euro finals set for Sunday.
Even though it was not a Premier League clash, both sides fought for the pride of the badge to prove their dominance after last season one point difference between them, a difference that was confirmed up to the end of the last clash.

On Saturday, it was the youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold who culled the ball which took a little deflection off Nathan Ake giving Jurgen Klopp’s side the lead in the 21st minute.
Former Dortmund striker Erling Haaland came close to finding an equalizer but his effort was blocked by Adrian before fellow summer signing Julian Alvarez thumped in a Phil Foden effort from close range.
Ruben Dias was mishandled in the penalty box in the 83rd minute before Mohamed Salah converted the penalty to double the lead for the Reds. Nunez sealed the three goal thriller from close range as he celebrated before his new supporters.
The season opener was a perfect test for both sides who will be eager to challenge every trophy in the season including the Champions League. After missing out the Premier League and Champions League, Liverpool look prepared to launch a serious campaign.
