Man sentenced to life for assault and causing grievous harm

Tamu Senior Principal Magistrate has sentenced a middle-aged man to life imprisonment for assaulting ad causing grievous harm to another man.

“Tamu Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. P.K. Rugut has sentenced a middle-aged man to life imprisonment for assaulting and causing grievous harm to Kennedy Ochieng, contrary to Section 234 of the penal code,” said ODPP

Erick Onyango with the assistance of others is reported to have attacked Kennedy with a panga causing serious cuts on his neck, hip, and right arm which was later amputated due to the extent of the injuries.

The prosecution team led by Beatrice Chelangat presented six witnesses whose statements depicted the events leading to the assault and later rendering the victim disabled.

“Erick Onyango was found guilty of jointly with others not before the court for assaulting the complainant with a panga and thereby inflicting serious cuts on his neck, hip, and right arm which was later amputated due to the extent of injuries.

The prosecution, led by Beatrice Chelangat, presented 6 prosecution witnesses whose narratives depicted how the offense was committed.

The Magistrate’s decision was informed by the witness testimonies and the impact of the act on the victim’s life that has been rendered disabled and also the aggravating circumstances of the case.” said ODPP
