The win also see Pep Guardiola’s men stand 14 points adrift of third place Liverpool who have two matches to play at the moment. A win will see Liverpool cut the difference to eight points.

Even after the loss, Chelsea seat in second place with 43 points, a point above Liverpool who have two matches at hand with a possibility to topple them in their next fixture.

Thomas Tuchel side missed a number of opportunities in the clash with the best chance coming in the Romelu Lukaku was denied by Ederson in the second half.

Jack Grealish was also denied a clear goal scoring opportunity as Kepa produced a wonderful save sending both sides to a goalless first half.

Chelsea who have now dropped points recently, even though they are playing a promising football, they need to convert their chances and end the struggles they are experiencing in the league.

Even with the return of Lukaku, Manchester City confirmed their dominance and focus on the league cup beating the best opponents in the league.
