President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Sunday recognized world champion Eliud Kichoge with a top state reward during this year’s Mashujaa day celebrations.
The President who was welcomed on stage by his Deputy William Ruto greeted the crowd before proceeding to his Mashujaa day speech.
At the end of his speech he called Eliud Kipchoge and awarded him with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart.
The second top award of the state was handed to Kipchoge after completing a 42km in under two hours in Vienna.
Also recognized was world female champion Brigit Kosgei for smashing the world record.
The president assured the athletes he recognizes them as Mashujaa who have made the country proud.
Also mentioned was the late Prof. Wangari Mathai and freedom fighter Mekatilili wa Menza.
ODM leader Raila Odinga seconded the president by saying “ On this Mashujaa Day, I call upon fellow Kenyans to dedicate themselves to doing more for our country as we honour our nation’s heroes and heroines who have made Kenya great and inspired many to do the same. Let’s all step up to the task of building a united”
