Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Rigathi Gachagua has on Friday morning been arrested at his Nyeri home and taken to Nairobi for questioning.
The legislator confirmed the arrest saying that the detectives will question him over money laundering charges, investigations that will finally put to rest the countless arrests he has encountered.
“As predicted two dozens of DCI officers raided my Nyeri home and arrested me to face trumped-up charges of money laundering. I am being driven to Nairobi at reckless speed to spend the weekend in the cells.

I am happy it is finally over. It has been two years of hell; being arrested and released, writing countless statements, being prosecuted in the media, intimidation, and harassment to me and my family. I am happy I now have a chance to be vindicated in a court of law as our courts are independent.” Said Rigathi.
Sources privy to the arrest have revealed that the government seeks to understand his source of wealth and that the DCI seeks to reveal how he transacted close to Ksh 12 billion through 49 companies he runs.
Rigathi Gachagua is reported to have taken advantage of his brother’s position as the Governor of Nyeri Nderitu Gachagua to swindle the county billions through government tenders.
Allies of Deputy President William Ruto have cried foul play of the arrest terming it as an attack following the Kiambaa victory.
“The arrest of Hon Rigathi Gachagua is a sign of bad things to come. We are reaping the fruits of authoritarianism. I cry my country.” Said Senator Millicent Omanga.
“Hon. Rigathi Gachagua arrested in Nyeri by DCI sleuths as wider strategy of intimidation and blackmail of Dr. William samoei Arap Ruto allies. We shall overcome again!. The dawn is almost near.” Said Senator Cherargei.
