The Media Council of Kenya has requested the national government to provide protective gear to journalists covering coronavirus.
In a statement issued following the formation of an emergency response team, the council came up with several other requests.
First, they requested to call off live press conferences so as to comply with an order issued by the Ministry of Health.
- WHO to African countries, prepare for the worst
- Coronavirus cases rise to seven, 3 more confirmed
- Absa Bank waives transaction fees until 30th June 2020
Instead, they request the provision of live feeds to all media houses for public communication.
This will enable media houses to get access to questions and answers on live links.
Third, they are requesting official contents from the Ministry of Health free from advertising and can easily be translated to other vernacular languages and signs.
The team tasked with coming with the recommendation will remain in place for a period of 30 days as they monitor advise the Media Council of Kenya.
