Manchester United’s Champions League run came to an end on Tuesday night following a three-nil demolition by Barcelona with two goals coming from Lionel Messi.
Manchester United was trailing a goal down from the first leg and was punished further when they visited Camp Nou.
Messi opened the scoring for the host scoring a brilliant far-right ball that was far from the reach of David De Gea.
Four minutes later Messi doubled the lead for Barcelona when his weak shot went past the hands of De Gea and into the back of the net.
Philippe Coutinho added the third for Barcelona curling a stunning solo effort ball and into the far corner the Red Devils.
Manchester United started the game in a high note with Marcus Rashford driving the ball forward hitting the bar in the first 40 seconds of the game.
Barcelona will now face the winner between Liverpool and Porto who play on Wednesday night.
Juventus knocked out by Ajax
In another fixture of the night, Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax going down two goals to one.
Christiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Juventus in the 28th minute but the lead was short lived when Van De Beek equalized for the visitors six minutes later.
Juventus were punished in the second half when De Ligt doubled the lead for Ajax following a Schone’s assist.
Ajax will now meet the winner between Manchester City and Tottenham.
