Migori looming drought
The ongoing drought is said to have affected several counties in the country including Migori.
Water catchment areas in the county are said to be drying up leaving local livestock keepers a worried lot.
The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) has in the meantime warned eleven counties that the ongoing conditions are becoming worse.
Counties most affected include Wajir, West Pokot, Samburu, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Nyeri, Meru North, Turkana, and Baringo.
In Wajir County, for instance, the available pasture is expected to last for two weeks as the one available is quickly drying up.
An attempt by livestock farmers in the region to sell their animals has left many complaining about low prices due to health issues.
Some are even forced to sell at throwaway prices in order to get something in return.
Several animals including camels are reported to be dying as they have to walk long distances to reach water catchment areas.
The government has been called to come in to help such areas before the drought takes away human lives.
