Sonko’s bid for the Mombasa governor’s seat

Sonko who ditched the Jubilee party for the Wiper party ahead of the elections was barred by IEBC from vying for the Mombasa governor’s seat after the commission failed to get his original degree certificate as required by law.

Even after lodging the complaint with the Commission’s Dispute Resolution Committee, the former Nairobi Governor was still barred as Wiper was issued a 72-hour ultimatum to field in his replacement.

Sonko moved to the High Court which ordered the IEBC to ensure his name is on the ballot papers ahead of the elections. His victory last for a day as the Supreme Court ruled in favour of his impeachment as the Nairobi Governor barring him from further contesting in any public office.

Undeterred by the outcome, Sonko moved to the East Africa Court of Justice crying foul over the ruling claiming that he has no career outside politics.
