Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been cleared by Wiper Party and will now join the race to vie for Mombasa gubernatorial seat.
The news was confirmed by Wiper election board vice chair Agatha Solitei who noted that the former Nairobi Governor submitted his candidature for the Mombasa seat.
“That’s the list we have forwarded to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and yes Sonko has presented himself as a candidate in the Mombasa Governor’s race,” Said Agatha

In March Mike Sonko joined Wiper from Jubilee Party after he was ousted as the Nairobi Governor and revealing that he was taking some time off politics.
Receiving Sonko was Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who ruled out the possibility of Sonko being blocked from vying saying that the former governor has not implicated of any crime by a court of law.
In the same month, Sonko and his entire family were barred from entering US over corruption allegations during his tenure in office.
