Modern Coast bus goes up into flames in Samburu

A bus belonging to Modern Coast has on Friday midnight gone up into flames in Kwale County.

No injuries have been reported so far as the bus had no passengers on board during the accident. Police in Samburu Kwale County have lodged investigation into the mysterious fire.

The bus with number plate KBZ 820N is said to be from Mombasa heading to Mtito Andei at the time of the accident.

The accident occurs days after the tragic Fort Tenan accident where over 55 people died.

The grisly accident occurred along the Kericho-Kisumu highway after the bus driver hit a guard rail before rolling several times.

According to some survivors, they said that the bus was being driven very fast and efforts to warn the driver were futile.

Interior CS message

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i admitted to have failed as a department but he warned bus companies and drivers that moving forward they will be more strict.

He went forward to say that to some they will be ruthless.

Several leaders come out to console with the bereaved families and calling for the police to return normalcy on the road.

Some of the leaders who sent their condolence message include President Uhuru Kenyatta, opposition leader Raila and Deputy President William Ruto.

Arrest

The owner of the bus has so far been arrested and he is being held as investigations continue.

A family in Kakamega is mourning the death of their five family members who were involved in the accident.

Bodies of the deceased were first transferred to Kisumu as more families moved to confirm their family members.
