Mombasa Magistrate arrested over the loss of exhibits

A Mombasa Magistrate has been arrested over reckless handling of exhibits that included 10kg heroin and cash.

Detectives from the DCI have revealed that over Ksh 30 million and cash of various currencies valued at Ksh 600,000 has been lost.

Following the 2018 incident at the Mombasa Law Courts, five people have already been arrested and they include;

Principle Magistrate Hon. Edgar Matsigulu Kagoni

Executive Assistant Mr. Abdalla Awadh Abubakar

Mr. Lawrence Thoya Bayan

And Ruiru Court Assistant Mr. Onesmus Momanyi

Charges awaiting the suspects include their intention to go against the law and having a helping hand in drug trafficking.

The office of the DPP has confirmed having received intelligence from DCI Mombasa on 8th August 2019 in regard to the reckless handling of exhibits.

The Regional directorate received intelligence from the Chief Magistrate of Mombasa Law Courts in a criminal case between the Republic versus Hussein Massoud Eid and two others.

The suspect in question Hussein Massoud was found in possession of 10.002 kg of Heroine and foreign currencies amounting to Ksh 600,000.

DPP then confirms that upon completion of the investigation it was found that the prosecutor at that time IP Achila testified against the suspect and produced the drugs in question and cash as exhibits.
