Mpesa is a mobile phone money transfer service that was incepted in 2007 in Kenya by Vodafone and Safaricom. It has grown to offer more than money transfer and withdrawal services to customers as they can save and borrow loans on Mpesa.

It has also expanded away from Kenyan territories to operate in countries like Tanzania, South Africa, Afghanistan, Lesotho, DRC, Ghana, Mozambique, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

Mpesa has over 30 million active users in Kenya, owing to their convenience when it comes to access to funds. There are more than 110,000 Safaricom Mpesa agents in Kenya who aid customers in Mpesa registration, withdrawal, and deposit of funds, among other related services.

Mpesa registration and depositing cash to your Mpesa are free of charge. On the other hand, withdrawing funds from your Mpesa mobile wallet at any Safaricom outlet costs a withdrawal charge that varies depending on the transaction amount.

Mpesa withdrawal charges 2022 (from Mpesa agent)

The maximum amount of money you can have on your Mpesa wallet is Ksh300,000, and it is also the highest amount you can withdraw at a Mpesa agent per day. But you cannot withdraw this sum at once. The maximum amount to be withdrawn per transaction is Ksh150,000.

Mpesa transfer charges 2022 – customer to customer, customer to Pochi la Biashara

Sending money from your Mpesa account to another customer will cost you a fee depending on the amount of money you are transferring. The same charges for each category of the transaction provided by Safaricom apply when you send money to Pochi La Biashara. The minimum amount to send via Mpesa is Ksh1, while the maximum is Ksh150,000. Paying for goods using a business till number is absolutely free while paying using pay bill numbers has transaction costs.

Note that all Mpesa transactions at an agent is done in person with your national ID card lest you are denied services. Also, while depositing cash, you will be asked to provide your ID number for a successful transaction, your phone must be turned on, and you should have it at the Mpesa outlet.
