Mpesa fraud suspect and guards manning ATMs arrested

Directorate of Criminal Investigation detectives have arrested a suspect linked to various Mpesa fraud cases in the country.

Mr. Robert Mwaura the Mpesa fraud suspect is accused of defrauding unsuspecting Kenyans millions through various ATMs.

“Mr. Robert Mwaura Mwita- a suspect linked to various cases of Mpesa fraud in which members of the public have been defrauded MILLIONS of shillings was arrested yesterday by @DCI_Kenya Detectives after an assiduous operation. “

The detectives further unearthed a ring of security officers manning the ATMs who have been aiding Mwaura in his operations.

“The suspect has been working in cahoot with security guards manning various ATMs whom he had recruited to withdraw money after sending them withdrawal secret codes. “

A revelation by the suspect revealed that the security officers received the codes that they used to withdraw cash before sending the amount less their cut to Mwaura.

“Upon withdrawing the money conned from unsuspecting members of the public, the said guards have been taking their agreed upon portion & sending the rest”

One of the guards was caught in the act by a CCTV camera in one of the ATM before he was arrested by DCI detectives.
