A 50-year-old man in Ndeere Village, Murang’a County is nursing serious injuries after a hippopotamus attacked him biting off a big part of his shoulder.
David Njoroge who was sitting at his house at 7 pm was alerted by neighbours screams calling for help before dashing out to see what was happening.
No sooner had he opened the door, than Njoroge met the hungry beast right at his doorstep. He was pushed down by the animal which took out a big part of his right shoulder forcing him to play dead to escape further attacks.

Speaking after the incident, Njoroge recalled how he thought the screams were to alert neighbours of a thief in the area only to meet the hippopotamus head-on.
He was however rescued by his neighbours who rushed him to Murang’a Level 4 hospitals where he remains admitted. The 50-year-old is expected to undergo major surgery on his shoulder.
Residents are now called on Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to come to the help of Njoroge in whatever capacity.
