Muranga man,36, arrested selling stolen mobile phone

Detectives have arrested one Athman Karim Kori as he was selling a mobile phone he had stolen together with his accomplice.

“Athman Karim Kori, 36, is a guest of the state for the weekend after he was arrested last evening selling a mobile phone that he, together with an accomplice, had stolen in Muranga town.” Said DCI

The suspect and his accomplice are reported to have closely followed one Harrison Kuria within Mumbi Estate before stealing his mobile phone and Ksh 5,200 in cash.

“Athman & his counterpart had accosted Harrison Kuria within Mumbi Estate as he was walking home. The two brandished an imitation pistol and held it against Kuria as they went for his pockets. They made away with his mobile phone and Sh5200 in cash.” Said DCI

An hour after the incident, Kori approached a shop attendant within the town convincing him to purchase the phone. The attendant noted it was the same phone that had been stolen from Kuria.

He told the suspect to wait as he fetched the cash only to inform Kuria and the two reported the matter to the police before he was arrested.

“An hour later, one of the thugs approached a shop attendant in the town to sell the phone. On sighting the phone, the shop attendant who had earlier heard of Kuria‚Äôs predicament immediately recognized it.

He tricked the seller to wait for him as he went to fetch money but in turn, he informed Kuria and alerted police officers based at Muranga police station.

On arrival, the officers pounced on the suspect and upon searching him, recovered a toy pistol. Efforts to trace his accomplice are still ongoing. He will be arraigned on Monday to answer to charges of robbery with violence.” Said DCI
