Newcastle finally sign the highly-rated Sven Botman from Lille

Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly rated Dutch defender Sven Botman from French side LOSC Lille.

The 22-year-old centre back who was targeted by a number of clubs including Italian champions AC Milan, has been on Eddie Howe’s radar since October and was said to have been interested in the move to Magpies.

“Official, confirmed. Sven Botman joins Newcastle on a permanent deal for €37m fee after long negotiation. Contract signed until June 2027.

Newcastle have always been there since January – and now they have their top target.” Said Fabrizio Romano

Newcastle and Lille failed to agree on a deal in January which prompted the Magpies to pause and wait for the summer window to open to resume the negotiations.

The two clubs finally agreed on a £32 million fee this week, a deal which will see the Dutchman move to the Premier League on a 5-year contract.

Eddie Howe who has already signed goalkeeper Nick Pope and left back Matt Targett is looking to strengthen his team ahead of the 2022/23 season.
