The by-elections were halted after allegations of rigging were brought up by the Jubilee Party candidate who stormed one of the polling stations demanding a recount.

After some time counting resumed and IEBC confirmed Juguna Wanjiku as the ultimate winner.

Political analysts termed the by-election as a litmus test for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his popularity in Mount Kenya region ahead of the upcoming general elections. It was also a contest at his very backyard of Kiambu.

Several leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto celebrated the victory as they congratulated their candidate after a vigorous campaign surrounded by violence from supporters from both sides.

“Congratulations to you my friend John Njuguna Wanjiku of UDA on your election as the newest MP of Kiambaa Constituency. Despite all the evil schemes&misuse of government resources&time to subvert the will of the people, the Lord God protected your victory. To God be the Glory. Amen!” Said Senator Murkomen
