Nyandarua County has been forced to allocate funds to build a bridge after photos of students dangerously crossing a river went viral.
Nyandarua County is said to have allocated Ksh 8 million to build a bridge to connect Kahutha and Ngamini villages in Ndaragwa constituency.
“Nyandarua County has bowed to social media pressure and allocated sh. 8 million to build a bridge across this river after these pictures showing pupils from Kahutha and Ngamini villages in Ndaragwa Constituency crossing it via a log to get to school went viral.”
It is evident from the pictures that the students are forced to hold hands so as to increase stability and overcome the wet log.

Older students carry the young ones on their backs so as to protect them from falling into the river that is filled with rocks.

Cases have also been reported of people falling into the river when the logs are wet.
An alternative safe footbridge is said to be passing through a private farm and has since been closed by the owner.
Teachers report many cases of students arriving late as they tackle the tough trees to make it to school.
