One member of Uganda Olympic team tests positive in Japan

One member of the Uganda Olympic team has tested positive for COVID-19 in under a month before the games set for Japan kick off.

The team that consists of boxers, their coaches and other officials arrived in Japan on Saturday before the news was confirmed. Australia Women’s softball team was the first one to arrive.

It was during screening at the airport when a member of the team was confirmed positive with the news also confirmed by a top government official who did not reveal the name of the person.

Immediately after he was confirmed positive, the person was taking into isolation with the country as the games officials pledged to take into consideration all precautions.

Local media in Uganda confirmed that the group had fully been vaccinated before heading to Japan.

The team was initially supposed to depart on June 16th but their flight was cancelled due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in the country. Another team has also left the country for Japan.

The team was the first one to return a positive cases as Tokyo Olympic members work around the clock to ensure safety of everyone at the games.

Already foreign fans have been banned from attending the events with those allowed being domestic fans. The officials are currently discussing on the minimum number of people to be be allowed at the games.
