Police officer in Meru shoots girlfriend on the cheek

A police officer in Meru is on the run after shooting his girlfriend following a disagreement on Saturday.

The cause of the incident is yet to be known but a manhunt has already began to apprehend the officer.

David Nyamwea is reported to have shot his 23-year-old girlfriend Everlyne Njoki on the cheek at 9:30 pm.

A fellow officer who witnessed the crime told CItizen TV that he rushed to help the victim only for David to escape from the scene.

He immediately organized for Njoki to be rushed to the hospital where she is in a critical condition at the moment.

A used cartridge and gun was recovered at the scene as the victim receives treatment at Maua Methodist Hospital.
