Premier League 2022/23 season dates changed to accommodate World Cup

Premier League has confirmed a change in the date of the 2022/23 season so as to accommodate the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

The World Cup which is expected to begin in the middle of the domestic calendar has forced the Premier League season to begin on 6th August.

“All 20 Premier League clubs have discussed the post-2024 International Match Calendar reform process and are unanimously opposed to FIFA’s proposal for biennial men’s World Cups, along with any plans involving significantly extended international windows.” Read the statement.

In the new changes, the last round of 16 will take place between 12th and 13th November before the call up of players on 14th November.

The normal Premier League calendar will then resume on Boxing Day after the World Cup final which is scheduled to take place on 18th December 2022. The final matches of the League will take place on 28th May 2023.

“Next season’s dates have been confirmed. The PL season will start on 6 August 2022 and finish on May 28 2023. There will be a mid-season break between 14 November and 26 December to accommodate the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.” Said Premier League
