President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Wednesday called for the lifestyle audit of Kenya Revenue officials who live big but their taxes do not match their lifestyle.
President Uhuru was speaking during this year’s annual tax payer day where compliant and diligent tax payer’s were recognized .
“Today I presided over the annual Tax payer’s day 2018, in recognition of compliant and diligent taxpayers. There is need for us to pay a lot more attention to both tax payers and tax collectors, because our Nation’s future lies in their hands.” Said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He further issued a stern warning to anyone who will be found guilty of evading tax that they will be prosecuted.
Addressing KRA, he said that they should put in place a technology that will ensure all taxpayer’s are identified to bring more Kenyan’s into the tax net.
While giving the awards to the best performing companies, the president warned companies and individuals from using their position to promote tax extortion or evasion.
He further called KRA to work closely with the County Government to ensure that revenue collection improves within the country.
Launch of cargo tracking system
The president also launched the Kenya Revenue Regional Electronic cargo Tracking System (RECTS) and the Integrated Scanner Command Center(ICSC).
The system will enable KRA do real time cargo tracking of goods across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda thus improving efficiency.
