President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Thursday defended the appointment of 91 year old Moody Awori to manage Sports, Art and Social Development Fund.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony for Kenya Commercial Banks 2jiajiri initiative, the president says he appointed Moody Awori due to the increased cases of corruption.
President Uhuru gave an example of how the situation has been when the youthful are given such opportunities.
Mr. Moody Awori was selected among seven others by Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich to manage the fund previously known as the Nation Sports Fund.
“I would rather stick with the old man who will guard the money and ensure it is used in the right way” Said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The team will be tasked with managing the fund and preparing quarterly reports and submits to the Finance CS. Other functions will be to developing infrastructure and facilitating Kenyan teams for international assignments.
Government support for youth
The President addressed the youth assuring them of the government support if they are honest in their dealings.
He called out on the youth who prefer shortcuts to get them rich saying that they have consequences in the future.
He instead urged them to take their time and eventually they will acquire the wealth they so need.
