President Uhuru mourns Olympian Agnes Jebet Tirop


President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Wednesday mourned the death of Olympian Agnes Jebet Tirop who was found dead at her house in Elgeyo Marakwet.

The Head of State noted how the late Olympian was part of Kenyan athletes who represented the country in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and finished fourth in the 5,000m race.

He continued by calling on the police to get into the root cause of her murder as well as arrest those behind her death. Tirop was stabbed by unknown people.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined Kenya’s athletics fraternity in mourning Olympian Agnes Jebet Tirop who was found dead in her house in Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet County on Wednesday.

Agnes Tirop, 25, was part of the triumphant Kenyan contingent to this year’s delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she represented the country in the 5,000m race and finished 4th in the final.” Said State House

“I urge our law enforcement agencies led by the NPS Official KE to track down and apprehend the criminals responsible for the killing of Agnes so that they can face the full force of the law,” the Head of State directed.” Said President Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in his message of condolence termed the death of Agnes as a big blow to the country’s ambition and profile at large.

“It is unsettling, utterly unfortunate and very sad that we’ve lost a young and promising athlete who, at a young age of 25 years, she had brought our country so much glory through her exploits on the global athletics stage including in this year’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she was part of the Kenyan team in Japan,” Said President Uhuru
