President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Sunday promised Kenyans reduction in the cost of electricity by 30%.
Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations, the Head of State said the reduction will be done in two phases with the first phase set for this month.

The President retraced the country’s independence journey to becoming a Republic on 12th December 1964 saying the ongoing redevelopment of Uhuru Gardens into a modern people’s park was aimed at preserving Kenya’s rich history.
The Head of State also spoke about his directive on the lowering of electricity costs in the country by 30% announcing that the reform will be implemented in two phases starting this month with a 15% decrease.” Said State House.
The news will be a relief to many Kenyans who have been struggling following the effects of COVID-19 that resulted in job losses among many other side effects.
Recently Kenyans had to pay more at the pump after EPRA hiked fuel prices causing uproar before the prices were adjusted the following month.
President Uhuru also called for a review of all contracts entered between Kenya Power and independent suppliers as a step towards reducing the soaring fuel prices in the country.
